“Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.” ~ Phillipians 4:9
Dear Panther Families,
As we enter into the middle of Black History Month, I wanted to share the following resource with families - https://teachingcatholickids.com/black-history-month-activities-for-catholic-families/. This site includes biographies of influential saints and prayer ideas you may find interesting and helpful as we consider Black History month within the context of our Catholic faith.
Students have been hard at work this week. Ask them about what they have been learning and working on in their classes. When they reply “nothing”, as many kids do, you can prompt them with the following ideas!
Pre-K has been learning about courageous African American leaders as part of Black History Month.
Kindergarten is working on the numbers 11-19, adding, reading, and site words. They are also learning about Our Lady of Lourdes.
1st Grade is “reading around the world” and learning all about measurements.
2nd Grade is learning about time and money, and working on writing (paragraphs, introductions, opinion writing, and character development).
3rd Grade is working on fractions, starving the “Drama Monster”, and writing essays using the Chromebooks.
4th Grade is continuing fraction work through the addition and comparison of them, learning parts of speech, and studying Indiana history.
5th Grade is adding, comparing, and converting fractions, diagramming sentences, and studying early American history.
6th Grade is learning ancient Greek history and mythology, equivalent ratios, photosynthesis, and reading Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry. They are also preparing for Living Stations of the Cross.
7th Graders are working with microscopes, learning 3-D figures, studying early African history, and reading And Then There Were None.
8th Grade is learning slope intercept (graphing line equations), the Constitutional Convention, reading Lord of the Flies, and “breeding monsters” to learn about genetics.
